For the month of February, the month of love, I wanted to highlight the romantic nature of Filipinos and the culture. There’s so much romance found in our art, handiwork and architecture. Even our flora is lush and abundant. And of course, Filipinos are also known for being “malambing” or affectionate. 

My illustration depicts a golden hour afternoon surrounded by this warmth and romance, and it being shared too. Intricate embroidery and embellishments on textiles and clothing, okir or ukil on muwebles, delicate designs on caramel cakes. Flowers being present in every nook of the home. A flower arranging session after a trip to Dangwa while sharing cake and yapping with friends. 

Typically, romantic love first comes to mind when one says February, but I think platonic love should be given a spotlight as well. While romantic love is amazing, I think the love between friends is so special and pure, and nothing can come close to it. Sometimes it just takes one afternoon spent laughing with your ride or dies to be so glad to be alive in this lifetime. —Gianne Encarnacion (@pngianne)
