[Art Print] 2026 Disyembre by France Daffon

When Ang Manileña asked us what we enjoy about living in present day Manila, food immediately came to mind. Like any barangay, food and daily necessities are easily accessible—any neighbor could be selling something in front of their homes. I chose to make a scene on grilling barbecue because it was something I always remember in Sampaloc that was right across from my childhood home. It served the entire block of Jhocson St and was always busy especially during the fiesta in December. I wanted to show how a barbecue stand becomes a street or barangay’s meeting point and how you can find anyone at different moments in their days—waiting patiently (or not). — France Daffon (@francedaffon)
